Understanding Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of bodywork in which the Shiatsu practitioner uses a combination of manual techniques (thumb and finger pressure, palm pressure, and passive stretching) to balance the body's energy flow (Ki). Pressure is applied to various parts (acupressure points) of various energy lines (meridians) which run through dirrerent areas of the body. The depth and speed of pressure applied will vary depending on the quality of the Ki flow in each area worked, and on the needs of the client.

At Shiatsu Hub Glasgow we offer different types of Shiatsu treatments: Five Element Zen Shiatsu; Seated Shiatsu; and Meridian Massage (please see treatments section for description of each).

During the treatment you may experience deep pressure sensations, stretching, warmth and tingling, deep relaxation, and/or emotional release. If you experience discomfort at any point during the treatment it usually important to let the Shiatsu practitioner know about this immediately.

Immediate post treatment effects (24-48 hours) may include temporary fatigue, mild muscle soreness, or increased thirst as the body rebalances. Alternatively, you may feel immediately invigorated, mentally clearer and lighter. General benefits may include pain relief, improved circulation, stress reduction, better sleep, digestive improvement, enhanced flexibility, balanced energy flow, and overall wellness.
